Maasstroompjes: Rotterdam's own biscuit since 1934

Elongated butter pastry with a stripe of frangipane, baked to the original recipe from almost a century ago.
Every city has its biscuit. Since 1934 Rotterdam has had the Maasstroompjes: elongated butter biscuits with a stripe of frangipane, named after the river that flows through the city.
The recipe hasn't changed in all those years. The biscuits are still baked the way their inventor intended: butter, almond and a shape you recognise at once.
For us that's why the Maasstroompjes go into the Maasstad Box: it's the product that places your box firmly in the city, even before anyone has tasted a thing.
They're also simply good with coffee. A small gesture, a big Rotterdam feeling.
