Kaapse Brouwers: the beer of Katendrecht

30 July 2026 · 4 min read

From 'de Kaap' to the Fenix Food Factory: Rotterdam's craft brewer with beers like Karel, Dennie, Nada and Maria.

Katendrecht - 'de Kaap' to Rotterdammers - was once the roughest neighbourhood in town. These days it's home to the Fenix Food Factory, and inside it the taproom of Kaapse Brouwers: the brewery that put Rotterdam on the craft beer map.

The beers carry names that sound like your neighbours: Karel, Dennie, Nada, Maria. Behind them is serious brewing, from approachable blondes to beers you drink slowly and admire up close.

What makes the brewery so Rotterdam is its attitude: no fuss, just quality. Tastings are welcome, but the beer doesn't need explaining - it does its work in the glass.

In our drinks boxes, a Kaapse is often the first can or bottle to be opened. Exactly as it should be for a beer rooted on the Kaap.
