Christmas hamper filling: what to put in (and what not to)

The ideal balance between sweet, savoury, drinks and non-food - plus the filling materials we do and don't use.

'Filling' means two things: the products in the hamper and the material around them. Both determine how the hamper feels when it's opened.

The product ratio that works

• 40% savoury: sausage, cheese, nuts, crisps, salsa.
• 30% sweet: chocolate, biscuits, stroopwafels, jam.
• 20% drinks: beer, wine, gin, coffee, tea or seltzer.
• 10% surprise: something unfamiliar, or a non-food element.

Filling material

We use paper filling and recycled cardboard. No plastic shrink wrap, no polystyrene. That looks neater and fits the social and sustainable approach behind our production.

What's better left out

1. 01Items purely for volume.
2. 02Products with a short shelf life for early delivery.
3. 03Alcohol without an alternative for non-drinkers.
